The 2026–27 NBA season is barely two weeks old, but the early results are already shaking up championship expectations. The Houston Rockets have emerged as one of the league's hottest teams, opening 5–0 and making an early statement in the Western Conference. The Philadelphia 76ers are also turning heads, with their star-studded roster delivering impressive victories over the defending champion Knicks. Week 8 of the 2026 NFL season delivered major upsets, standout performances and a dramatic shakeup among the league's top contenders, as the NFL's last undefeated team finally fell. The biggest surprise came in Detroit, where the Lions handed Minnesota its first loss, 19-15, ending the Vikings' perfect season. Denver's victory over Kansas City has shaken up the AFC West, while Buffalo and Jacksonville continue to strengthen their playoff credentials. Meanwhile, Minnesota must respond to its first defeat, Baltimore faces uncertainty following Lamar Jackson's injury, and Philadelphia's six-game losing streak has become one of the season's biggest disappointments. Halloween weekend delivered another round of college football chaos, highlighted by a stunning Top 5 upset, several last-second finishes, and a major shakeup in the national rankings. The biggest shock came in Los Angeles, where USC Trojans stunned No. 2 Ohio State Buckeyes 30–18. USC receiver Trent Mosley delivered 101 receiving yards and a touchdown, handing the Buckeyes their second loss and sending them tumbling nine spots to No. 11 in the latest AP poll. The drama continued as Indiana survived Minnesota 23–16 in overtime, while Iowa State stunned No. 24 Oklahoma State 51–49 on a last-second field goal. Iowa shut out No. 25 Wisconsin 30–0, and Syracuse upset No. 19 SMU 30–27. Among the weekend's standout performers, Texas Tech's J'Koby Williams rushed for 175 yards in a 34–26 victory over Arizona, while Indiana receiver Charlie Becker recorded 149 yards and the winning overtime touchdown. The Playoff Picture: The November 1 AP Top 5 features Miami, Georgia, Utah, Notre Dame and UCLA. Ohio State falls out of the Top 10, while undefeated UCLA reaches its highest ranking since 2001. New Mexico also makes history, entering the AP Top 25 for the first time in program history. The first official College Football Playoff rankings arrive Tuesday, November 3, providing the clearest picture yet of the championship race.
