With less than two weeks remaining in the 2026 MLB regular season, the playoff picture is taking shape—but several races remain wide open.
The Milwaukee Brewers, Los Angeles Dodger and Tampa Bay Rays have emerged as baseball's top regular-season teams. Milwaukee leads MLB in wins, while the Dodgers remain the team most sportsbooks favor to win the World Series. Atlanta has control of the NL East, while the Cubs and Phillies are positioned well for Wild Card spots. In the American League, Tampa Bay leads the way, but the Yankees remain within striking distance in the AL East. The biggest drama is further down the standings. The White Sox and Guardians are separated by less than a game in the AL Central, while Houston and Texas are battling for the AL West. Cleveland, Toronto and Texas are also separated by only a few games in the fight for the final Wild Card. The NL Wild Card race has tightened as well. San Diego has surged into playoff position, but Arizona remains close enough to make the final weeks interesting.
Despite Milwaukee owning MLB's best record, the Dodgers remain the clear World Series favorite, followed by a group that includes the Brewers, Yankees and Rays. Atlanta, Philadelphia, Boston and the Cubs also have legitimate October aspirations. Heading Into the Final Two Weeks, the Dodgers may still be the team to beat, but Milwaukee and Tampa Bay have proven they belong among baseball's elite. Meanwhile, the Yankees have the talent to be extremely dangerous in a short postseason series. The contenders have separated themselves. Now the focus shifts to playoff seeding, division championships and several Wild Card races that could come down to the final weekend.

The 2026 NFL season opened with plenty of fireworks, including big offensive performances, surprising results and early statements from several Super Bowl contenders. Chicago produced the weekend's biggest offensive explosion, beating Carolina 59-37 behind four total touchdowns from Caleb Williams and 124 rushing yards and three scores from D'Andre Swift. Buffalo also impressed, defeating Houston 36-31 as Josh Allen threw for 334 yards and accounted for four touchdowns.
San Francisco made a strong statement with a 27-7 victory over the Rams, while the Giants opened the John Harbaugh era by beating Dallas 28-20 behind three touchdown passes from Jaxson Dart. Defending champion Seattle survived New England 13-10, and Minnesota defeated Green Bay 39-22, although an injury to quarterback Kyler Murray became a major storyline. The week concluded with Kansas City dominating Denver 31-10. New Chiefs running back Kenneth Walker III was spectacular, piling up 191 yards from scrimmage and two touchdowns, while Patrick Mahomes looked strong in his return.
Heading Into Week 2, Kansas City, Buffalo and San Francisco already look like championship contenders, while Chicago may be emerging as one of the NFC's most dangerous teams. The Giants suddenly deserve attention, and Arizona's opening-week upset was another result worth watching. Meanwhile, Denver, Dallas, Green Bay and the Rams face early pressure to respond. It's only Week 1—but the first weekend provided an early reminder of how quickly expectations can change in the NFL.

CFB Week 2 delivered exactly what college football fans love: huge comebacks, major upsets and an early shakeup of the national-title picture. The headline belonged to Texas, which looked finished after trailing No. 1 Ohio State 23–3 entering the fourth quarter. Arch Manning and the Longhorns responded with 21 unanswered points, stunning the Buckeyes 24–23 and vaulting Texas to No. 1 in the new AP poll. The weekend’s biggest upset came in Stillwater, where Oklahoma State shocked No. 6 Oregon 39–31 despite entering as a 23.5-point underdog. Drew Mestemaker produced 426 total yards as the Cowboys piled up 554 yards against Oregon, dealing a serious early blow to the Ducks’ playoff hopes. Michigan also made a statement, rebounding from a shaky opener to knock off No. 11 Oklahoma 17–10. Elsewhere, Alabama pulled away from Kentucky 45–17, Tennessee handled Georgia Tech 45–24, Texas A&M beat Arizona State 48–20, and Iowa survived Iowa State 16–13.
Heading into Week 3, Texas suddenly sits atop the college football world, while Ohio State and especially Oregon have some repairing to do. Georgia and Notre Dame continue to look like serious championship contenders, while Michigan’s victory puts the Wolverines right back into the national conversation. After only two weeks, the playoff race is already getting complicated—and Week 2 showed that preseason expectations may not survive September.
