Rivalry week always reveals the best and worst in teams, and the final week of the 2024 college football regular season didn't disappoint -- even if several games turned ugly. Top-10 Miami and Ohio State were upset by unranked teams, but only one of them will likely miss the College Football Playoff. Last week's results may have cleared up the playoff picture heading into championship weekend, though the ACC and the SEC may be fighting over a final spot and the Big 12 may have issues landing a first-round bye because of Boise State's position in the CFP Rankings. It took 13 weeks, but we finally had our first team eliminated from playoff contention this year and in a total shock, it wasn't the Carolina Panthers. If you would have asked a month ago, everyone would have bet everything they owned that Carolina would be the first team knocked out, but it's a good thing I didn't bet, because I wouldn't even have a laptop to write this on right now, because I would have lost everything I owned. But it was the Giants! And just for the record, there are actually four teams that have been eliminated from the playoffs as we head into NFL Week 14: The Giants, Raiders, Jaguars and Patriots. The Giants were the first team out, though, since they lost on Thanksgiving before the Raiders, Patriots and Jaguars played in Week 13. Shop NFL special packages here, or visit the services' home pages for more packages.
The group stage of the 2024 NBA Cup concludes Tuesday night, and it will be a race to the finish line to figure out which teams will qualify for the knockout round. Only the Golden State Warriors, Houston Rockets and Atlanta Hawks have clinched spots in the knockout stage so far, as five spots in the eight-team knockout bracket are still up for grabs, including the wild-card spots in both conferences. CFB power rankings:
    1. Oregon (12-0): The Ducks have flown above the chaos all season. Oregon drilled rival Washington 49-21 to finish the regular season undefeated as the No. 1 team in the rankings. It will now play Penn State in the Big Ten Championship Game after not playing the Nittany Lions in the regular season. Dillon Gabriel threw 209 yards in his 61st career start, tying Bo Nix for the most QB starts in FBS history. He'll break the record next week.
    2. Notre Dame (11-1): A win is a win, especially when you're in the playoff hunt and playing a game on the other side of the country. Notre Dame returned two interceptions for touchdowns in the fourth quarter to beat USC 49-35. Marcus Freeman is now the fastest coach in Notre Dame history to win 30 games (30-9). Up next is a playoff game in South Bend, Indiana.
    3. Texas (11-1): The eyes of Texas are on Atlanta. The Longhorns had no trouble beating Texas A&M in the long-awaited renewal of the Lonestar Showdown. The defense blanked the Aggies, holding them scoreless and to only 244 total yards. Quinn Ewers threw a touchdown to his own team and a pick six to the Aggies - and Arch Manning scored on the ground - to send Texas to the SEC Championship Game. The rematch against Georgia will be for conference supremacy and a first-round bye. Can Texas score against the Dawgs defense this time?
    4. Penn State (11-1): James Franklin is back in the Big Ten Championship Game after an eight-year absence - with the help of Ohio State. The Nittany Lions have been impressive most of the season, and though many will point to close road games at USC, Wisconsin and Minnesota as weak spots, we see it as the sign of a gritty team. Grittiness is something that has been missing in previous seasons. The Nittany Lions dispatched Maryland 44-7 on Saturday.
    5. Georgia (10-2): Georgia's inconsistencies popped up again, but the Bulldogs exploded in the fourth quarter to rally before winning a nine-overtime thriller against Georgia Tech. As Kirby Smart said after the game, Tech's staff out-coached Georgia. But, in the end, the Bulldogs' immense talent won the day. Tech pushed the Bulldogs around in the trenches with a relentless effort you only see in an intense rivalry game. The game should only help the Bulldogs as they prepare for the College Football Playoff, but might the Bulldogs be ranked a tad too high? We can't wait to watch the SEC Championship Game.

    NFL power rankings:
    1. Lions (11-1-0): The injuries on defense are starting to add up. That can be a problem down the stretch and this week against the Packers. They've lost a lot of good players.
    2. Bills (10-2-0): They are the AFC East champs, but that isn't the prize this team wants or needs. It's bigger than that. Josh Allen is now the MVP favorite.
    3. Chiefs (11-1-0): They have struggled to win their games, but they find a way. It's all about the playoffs for them, and they will be there -- so stop worrying. The Chargers will be a challenge this week.
    4. Eagles (10-2-0): They are physical on offense, have an MVP candidate in Saquon Barkley and a defense that is suddenly tough to crack. Oh, they also have a favorable schedule down the stretch.
    5. Vikings (10-2-0): They win a lot of close games, but isn't that a sign of a good team? You are what your record says you are, so I guess they are pretty good.

    NHL power rankings:
    1. Hurricanes (16-7-1): Martin Necas: The elite scoring the Hurricanes were looking for all those years was on their roster the entire time. Martin Necas has leveled up his game this season, and the Canes now have a truly elite forward at the top of their lineup. Necas is tied with Nathan MacKinnon for the league lead in points (35). He's also 10th in goals (12) and third in assists (23). Pretty good company.
    2. Jets( 18-7-0): Connor Hellebuyck: The Jets have a human erasure between the pipes, and he gives them a chance to win every single time he starts. Case in point: Hellebuyck just saved 3.71 goals above average in Winnipeg's 4-1 win over the Wild on Monday. That brought him to 13.6 goals saved above average, the best mark in the NHL.
    3. Wild (16-4-4): Young guns: When you're paying two players just shy of $15 million not to play for your team, you need young players on team-friendly deals to step up. That's exactly what Minnesota has gotten this season. Marco Rossi and Brock Faber are both still on their entry-level contracts, and they have become key parts of this Wild lineup. Matt Boldy is now making $7 million per season, but even that looks like a bargain right now.
    4. Devils (17-9-2): Special teams | The Devils are a strong team at five-on-five, but what really makes them dangerous is their ability to dominate on special teams as well. New Jersey ranks second with a 31.5% conversion rate on the power play, and the penalty kill is sixth at 83.6%. No matter the situation, the Devils can simply overwhelm their opponents.
    5. Capitals (17-6-1): Spencer Carbery | In the summer of 2023, Spencer Carbery was perhaps the hottest name on the coaching market, and for good reason. Carbery has quickly transformed the Capitals from a mediocre squad into a possible Stanley Cup contender. It's no fluke either. Washington has a 51.8% five-on-five expected goals share, and it has a plus-24 goal differential in those situations.

    NBA power rankings:
    1. Cavaliers (18-3): It's nice to follow up a hard-fought loss to the Celtics with games against the Pelicans and Raptors, and the Cavs showed just how far ahead of those teams they are right now. Early Sixth Man of the Year and Most Improved Player candidate Ty Jerome averaged 27.5 points in 26 minutes in the two wins, knocking down 11 of his 20 3-point attempts.
    2. Celtics (17-4): Adding Kristaps Porzingis to the 14-3 Celtics didn't seem fair, and sure enough they're now 15-3 after the big man posted 16 points and six rebounds in his season debut. Boston is third in offense, eighth in defense, and has won six games in a row.
    3. Thunder (15-5): OKC got the ship headed back in the right direction thanks partly to the arrival of Isaiah Hartenstein, who's averaged 16 points and 12 rebounds in his first two games with the Thunder on 56% shooting. It seems he'll fill in admirably for Chet Holmgren, as Hartenstein is a team-best plus-34 during his two games so far.
    4. Rockets (15-6): Despite Fred VanVleet nearly gouging out the eye of an official in Saturday's loss to the Blazers, it was another great week for the Rockets, who now sit just one game out of the top spot in the Western Conference. Alperen Sengun put up his third triple-double of the year in Tuesday's overtime win against the Wolves, while Houston is fractions of a point away from being the league's best defense.
    5. Warriors (12-7): De'Anthony Melton's season-ending injury clearly hurt the starting lineup, but it might actually affect the closing lineup more. The Warriors blew two very large leads in consecutive losses to the Spurs and Nets, leading to at least some concern about who will finish games on one of the league's deepest rosters (even without Melton). It doesn't help that Steph Curry was terrible -- by his standards -- in the losses, averaging 21 points on 39% shooting.
