What was arguably the most memorable NBA trade deadline in NBA history (and one that may never be duplicated) has come to an end,
and we're still in the process of retrieving our jaws from the floor after Luka Doncic somehow ended up alongside LeBron James on the
Los Angeles Lakers. The crazy part about this year's deadline is that the Doncic trade made what would otherwise be massive moves seem
pedestrian by comparison. Jimmy Butler is on the Warriors. De'Aaron Fox is teamed up with Victor Wembanyama in San Antonio.
Brandon Ingram is moving north of the border.

In NCAABB, Another new bracket, another new No. 1 seed. Florida has jumped up to the top line following its win at Mississippi State,
combined with Tennessee's loss at Kentucky. The Volunteers have dropped down to the 2-line. Kentucky made a big move up as well, going from a
No. 5 seed to a No. 3 seed following the win over the Vols. There are still seven SEC teams in the top 16 spots in the bracket, including five
of the top six. Ideally, teams in the top 16 from the same conference would be bracketed to not meet each other before the Final Four.
That is not possible with this many teams, of course. There are three regions in which a two top four seeded teams from the SEC could meet
in the Elite Eight. Only Auburn does not have another SEC team in the top four of its region. Texas dropped out of the bracket, leaving
the SEC with thirteen teams. Arkansas and Georgia are among the Last 4 In, so all three have work to do to be in the final bracket on
selection Sunday. The Big Ten has the second most teams with 11. Indiana is the last team in today following the Hoosiers win at Michigan
State on Tuesday. The Big 12 has seven teams in the projected field. No other conference has more than four.

NBA power rankings:
1. Thunder (37-9): Recently OKC has struggled to generate offense outside of Shai Gilgeous-Alexander -- and he's nearly been able to win games by himself with his increasingly absurd point totals -- but there's certainly no cause for panic. They're still first in defense, sixth in offense and first in net rating by a country mile.
2. Cavaliers (38-9): The fact that the Cavs lost three games in a row recently and they still only have NINE losses all season shows just how magical this run has been for them. Still, the defense has been a real cause for concern, as they're now 26th in the league in January with a 9-5 record during the month.
3. Rockets (32-14): The Rockets have now picked up nine combined wins against the Cavs, Thunder, Celtics, Grizzlies and Nuggets -- how's that for big-game pedigree? Amen Thompson is the talk of the league with his performance since moving into the starting lineup in place of the injured Jabari Smith Jr. in early January. Thompson is averaging 18.5 points, 10.9 rebounds, 4.3 assists, 2.3 steals and 1.2 blocks as the Rockets have gone 9-2 in that stretch.
4. Celtics (33-15): The roller coaster season continues for the Celtics, who can still -- at times -- look like the hands-down favorite to win the title. But at other times they put up 96 points in a blowout loss to the Lakers *shrug emoji*. Kristaps Porzingis is in the midst of a scorching-hot stretch, averaging 20.5 points and eight rebounds over his last 12 games on absurd 51/51/87 shooting splits.
5. Knicks (32-16): The Knicks scored 99 points in a win over the Nets last week and then were like, screw that. All they did was put up 408 points over their next three games -- all wins -- to set a franchise record for a three-game span. They've now won five in a row, and the last three have come against the then-red-hot Kings, the Grizzlies and the Nuggets -- just the type of quality wins they've been lacking even in such a tremendous season.
NHL power rankings:
1. Golden Kights (31-15-6): Create more of a good thing | Only five teams have a better power play than the Golden Knights, but only one team gets fewer power play opportunities per game. Vegas is lethal on the man advantage, and that will only give the team a bigger edge if it can start creating more power plays. I would never advocate for diving, but...
2. Jets (36-14-3): Step up when it matters | The Jets are once again among the hottest teams in the NHL. They've won four in a row and were 9-4-1 in the month of December. Winnipeg is on track for another excellent regular season, but that hasn't mattered much in the last two years. The Jets have gotten bounced in the first round two times in a row, so they will need to be at their best when the lights are brightest in 2025.
3. Oilers (32-15-4): Seize opportunities | The Oilers are fourth in the NHL in high-danger scoring chances per game (12.7), but their shooting percentage ranks 22nd (10.2%). If Edmonton can start cashing in on those opportunities more often -- as they have the talent to do -- it will start racking up wins at an alarming rate.
4. Kings (26-17-6): Make a splash | The Kings have quietly been one of the best teams in the league for a while now, and they've managed to do that with star defenseman Drew Doughty on long-term IR. Los Angeles has played strong two-way hockey, but it does seem like the roster needs a little more firepower in order to get past teams like the Oilers. GM Rob Blake may not want to mess with a good thing, but I'd like to see him take a big swing for a scorer ahead of the trade deadline.
5. Capitals (34-11-6): Feed Ovechkin | The Capitals have been a pleasant surprise, and they'll get their chance to do big things in the playoffs. Having said that, their New Year's resolution is all about getting Alex Ovechkin ahead of Wayne Gretzky on that all-time goals list. Just 25 goals to go.
